Event Report
Friday 14 to Sunday 16 June 2024 – The Annual Gathering at Great Longstone in the Peak District.
In 2024 we returned to Thornbridge Outdoors, near Bakewell, staying in the Lodge which was a purpose built cabin that had large bunks and plenty of room and was popular. The weekend was filled with walks, climbing and chatter! Stuart Bloom from Sheffield RR led a walk and joined us for the Saturday evening meal, followed by a quiz. The treasure hunt around the local area, ably organised by Jon Marsden, had so many anomalies making the scoring contentious in places but enjoyed by all. Noise in the dining room aside, this was a great venue in many ways, with very comfortable bunks.
Several attendees were having big birthdays so plenty of cakes were supplied for a get together organised by Becky Bates. Gill Cox and Gil Platt provided the evening meals which seemed to go down well, and Gill’s three course meal was outstanding.
While this venue has been a success for two years the National Committee have decided to change the venue for 2025 to Dovedale House, Ilam on 13th – 15th June 2025. We are staying in the Peak District as we felt this was easiest for everyone to get to. It accommodates up to 50 people so we hope you will take the opportunity to sign up for it.
