Join Red Rope, a great way to get out and meet people!
What do I get?
- You’re part of the Club! – and get to join in club activities.
- You’ll get a Membership Card (useful for discounts – see below)
- Affiliation as club member to the BMC (British Mountaineering Council, for England & Wales members) or Mountaineering Scotland, for Scotland members (see below for details)
- The Monthly Information Sheet the ‘MIS’, will be emailed to you, listing all our upcoming walks, trips and social events for the whole of the UK
- The magazine-style Red Rope Bulletin with news of what we have all been doing.
- Members rates on trips
- We will add you to our National Members mailing list so you can hear occasional news from other members, most people like this (others do not see your actual email address). It is however easy to unsubscribe.
How do I join – and what does it cost?
Red Rope has an annual membership fee. Red Rope charges vary according to your income – so members on higher incomes pay a bit more and members on lower incomes/unwaged pay a bit less. That way we share the costs of the club fairly. Our charges are on a 5 point scale, currently from £15.00 to £60.00 for a year’s membership. See the membership charges page for more details.
Join up online!
For online payment we use a service called WebCollect. This uses an online membership form and a payment system called GoCardless which takes a payment from your bank account, (it also gives you the option to send a cheque instead.)

It saves us admin time if you join online, but if you prefer, you can still use paper and post. Just print out the Membership Form, fill it in and post it to the membership secretary (address on the form) along with the subscription fee.

We take your privacy seriously and will only use your membership details to help us administer the club, and for official club communications, including our Monthly Information Sheet and details of our Annual General Meeting – see more details at Privacy Policy
Affiliation with BMC and Mountaineering Scotland brings you:
- Summit magazine delivered by post in Spring for members in England & Wales
- Scottish Mountaineer magazine for members in Scotland
- Affiliate Membership card for BMC or MS
- Access to BMC and/or Mountaineering Scotland member services
- Outdoor activity travel insurance can be purchased at BMC rates
- An option with BMC or MS to upgrade to their full membership
